ChefSteps

ChefSteps has been mixing drinks since 2014. Until we put all the recipes together into one activity, we had forgotten how many cocktail recipes we have made over the years. Hmm, maybe we shouldn’t think about the relationship between those things too much. While we always love a classic Manhattan, we also like to push the limits and try new techniques with our cocktails. Have you ever carbonated a negroni? You should. That is our favorite action here—taking something familiar and adding something new, just to see what happens. We even found ways to let you eat your cocktails with our boozy gummies. Plus, we have a few tips and tricks here for how to enhance those cocktails. And, if you do not imbibe alcohol, we have a few interesting non-alcoholic beverages for you here too. Note. These recipes are measured by weight. That’s how we do things at ChefSteps. We created this activity to show you that why it matters that you measure by weight instead of volume. (Hint: accuracy.)

Cocktails are made up of ratios: two parts sweet gets brightened up with one part sour; three parts booze gets softened by one part sugar; two parts thin-and-watery gets thickened up with one part viscous, and most bartenders have techniques built around making cocktails by these ratios, not weight. However, when you measure the ingredients for our cocktails by weight, you will not only have a precisely made cocktail, but you will also learn the ratios for those cocktails. That will allow you to create your own cocktails later. Enjoy a fabulous cocktail and learn? Sounds good to us. The bar is open! Bottoms up.
